As a visionary artist with deep roots in Montreal's innovative music scene, newcomer Christian Sean is redefining pop music with his unique blend of melodic sensibilities and avant-garde experimentation, cemented by his much-loved debut single “Cold Water”. Now he returns to announce the details of his eagerly-anticipated debut album ‘Hallelujah Showers’.

‘Hallelujah Showers’ blends brash electronic ventures with ethereal vocal layering, resulting in a progressive pop sound that strikes the perfect balance between irresistible melodies and ambitious experimentalism. From bass-heavy sample collages to hyperkinetic freak-outs, solemn spirituals and hypnotic hooks, its seven self-produced tracks are as eclectic as they are cohesive, immersive and melodic.

Inspired by left-field innovators, as well as by mainstream pop masterminds, Christian’s songcraft is the ideal vehicle for his symbolic, instinct-driven lyricism, further blurring the lines between the accessible and the abstract. On ‘Hallelujah Showers’, he explores the oscillation between judgement and forgiveness, using water as a recurring symbol for the invisible forces that bind humans interpersonally and the intangible, often unconscious content that gets passed between two individuals: emotion, intention, sexuality.

He wrote, recorded and produced the album by himself over a period of two years, mostly in remote lakeside country houses around Quebec. The surrounding ecosystems had a deep impact on its sonic direction, which can be heard on its first single; according to American magazine The Fader, “Cold Water is brimming with rich textures mimicking everything from the gentle burble of a spring stream to being swept out to sea by an unexpected current”.

Christian Sean’s slow-burning second single “Eventide” is a swirling, gorgeous piece of pop songcraft. At the heart of the track is an indelible, mournful and triumphant vocal melody, enveloped in masterful arrangements of orchestral grandeur with beatmaker sensibilities. Cascading strings fuse with celestial choirs as Sean’s sweet falsetto soars above a tapestry of unsettling drones, pulsating cellos and a funked-out rhythm section. The song is raw, anthemic, and vaguely psychedelic, with oblique lyrics that ponder dilemmas of judgement and forgiveness.

Christian Sean is a believer in the transformative power of pop music. As a kid he was drawn to indie rock and left-field electronics, part of a Montreal scene that disavowed commerciality in favour of innovation. Over time, however, he surrendered to his true calling – making the best music of his life, the incoming album ‘Hallelujah Showers’ is testimony to his melodic conversation, and his pop bravery.

A work of personal catharsis, ‘Hallelujah Showers’ was built on instinct, with Christian Sean truly getting his soul down on record. From its title to the final mixes, from those powerful vocals to the intricate arrangements, this is the moment a lifetime of music comes together in one place. “It’s the first step,” he says. “Everything up until this felt like research. But I feel more grounded in who I am now. This is the first project I’m truly willing to stand by, and I’m ready to move deeper into my creativity.”
