After recently following up her highly-praised debut EP ‘Conversations’ with her heartfelt  single “Maybe In Another Life” earlier this year which featured on BBC Introducing, London-based singer-songwriter Ella Jinks is back once again to offer up her tender new offering “This Fall”.

Co-written alongside renowned artist Katie Melua, “This Fall” continues that rich and passionate aesthetic she has been crafting for herself over the years. Using little more than a wistfully-played piano to support her breathtaking vocals, she returns to us with one of her more impactful efforts to date here.

Speaking about the new offering, she said, "I wrote ‘This Fall’ back in 2022 with Katie. It’s a song about understanding the importance of embracing pain in difficult situations rather than numbing ourselves entirely. Through the writing process, I realised that when we suppress sadness, we also suppress our capacity for joy and so it’s actually better to fully experience our emotions as they come, rather than burying them only for them to resurface later.”

While Katie Melua added, "It was such a pleasure working with Ella on ‘This fall.’ She came to the session with such stunning chords and harmonic steps. The core for the song was certainly there in her initial drafts and we worked towards getting it finished.  I’m honoured to be part of making this song. I love the meaning of the words too."

There is a dichotomy at the heart of 24-year-old Ella Jinks that makes her a fascinating artistic proposition. Her voice is utterly distinctive: a rich, sonorous vocal which conveys emotional resonance in a style that can only come from someone with a wealth of life experience behind her.

Her songwriting is just as classic, her bluesy, soulful indie-folk singer-songwriter style possessing a timelessness which echoes influences such as Laura Marling, Joni Mitchell and Lianne La Havas. And yet for all of her older soul, Ella’s lyrics tap into the eternal themes of young adulthood - discovering who you are, accepting your strengths, weaknesses and foibles, and learning to grow.

Her ‘Conversations’ EP was largely a DIY introduction which established a first wave of interest and led to a debut headline show at Aces and Eight in 2023.
