Following on from the rapturous response for their critically-acclaimed debut EP ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’ in April last year, which featured on BBC Introducing East’s Weekly Vibe and Spotify’s NMF (UK), New Noise, Hot New Bands, and Fresh Finds Rock playlists, as well as tastemakers CLASH, WONDERLAND and Record of the Day, Essex-based outfit Low Lying Sun have now announced their plans for the new EP ‘Did You Mean It’, showcased by their eponymous lead single ‘Low Lying Sun;.

Featuring their roaring comeback single ‘Heaven Knows’, which arrived at the end of 2022, ‘Did You Mean It’ aims to reflect the progressive vision that band have been developing since their debut collection. Acting as a continuation of their evolution so far, their second outing promises bigger and more anthemic offerings that elevates their dynamic direction to date.

Speaking about the new EP, they said, “Did You Mean It?” feels like the second chapter of the story told in our debut EP “Hymn To Say Goodbye”. The songs on both were written around the same time and share a lot of the same characteristics. Both are quite ambitious in the sound they try to achieve and both are very introspective. Although, with Brother, the narrative shifts slightly with a more objective viewpoint, before returning to the very personal “I’ll dig for you, brother”. We, as a band, love alternative versions of songs and Why Did It End In Love is almost like a cover of our own song. We recorded, produced and mixed the track ourselves and it allowed us to show a slightly different side to the music that we’ve released so far."

Showcased by the newly unveiled eponymously titled single, ‘Low Lying Sun’ originated at the very conception of the four-piece. Adding this retrospective moment to their newest EP adds a sense of longevity to their glistening aesthetic, and shows exactly how they have grown since their earliest days.

Adding about ‘Low Lying Sun’, they said, "Low Lying Sun was the first song we wrote together as a band. We were messing around writing and the song came together really quickly and laid down the foundations of what we wanted the band to sound like. Once we’d written a few more songs we were trying to think of a name for the project and it felt right that we should be named after the seminal track."

Since the release of their initial EP, Low Lying Sun have been extremely busy on the UK’s live circuit as well. Headlining the Communion New Music Club Night in Margate, supporting The Natives on their recent UK tour, as well as joining Peach Fuzz, Low Hummer, and Daytime TV during their London shows, and making a festival appearance at Live At Leeds to name a few. The band have also been featured on the soundtrack to Made In Chelsea on three separate occasions.

Formed by frontman Michael Hemmings, guitarist Ross Connell, bassist Matt Chan, and drummer Noah Booth, Low Lying Sun’s music is lively and introspective, combining ambitious orchestrations, earnest storytelling, and an energy that feels at once both fresh and timeless.

Bringing inflections from both sides of the Atlantic, they carve their own brand of alternative music, far greater than the sum of its parts. Low Lying Sun’s lyrics escape present disaster and search through nostalgia. They invite listeners to rejoice in the time and love that they’ve wasted, providing a commentary of loss over the band’s ambitious instrumentation.

Signed to Jamie Scott & Colin Barlow’s BSW Music, releasing through partnership with LAB Records, the band have quickly cemented themselves throughout 2022 with their first EP ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’, alongside countless high-profile live performances as well.
