‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’ may seem like a stadium-ready pop song. However peer beneath its shiny hood to reveal a combative missive to anyone that’s fucked someone over. Relaying empowering messages like this is something that’s become particularly important to Lucia.
Speaking about the inspiration for the new single, Lucia says, “Good girls do bad things is a song written for any women who feels like they have ever been undermined, or made to feel worthless and weak by a man. I find myself in these situations far too often, now more than ever, and it is important to highlight that they are the weak ones in the situation. “Sad boys looking at me always get what they don’t see” - was a lyric written from experiencing and witnessing men thinking that we aren’t capable or smart enough to react and defend ourselves”
The group have marked their latest era with a name change – one that’s reflective of their early work, referencing debut 2017 EP ‘Best Boy’, while also marking a new chapter. The name change also coincides with a line-up change for the Glaswegian band, which is now completed by guitarist Conor Goldie. He joins frontwoman Lucia Fairfull – who is a force to be reckoned with - drummer Alasdair Scott and bass player Chris Frew Ballantyne.
“The new stuff we’re doing isn’t putting everything we’ve done before to an end, it’s creating a new beginning point,” explains frontwoman Lucia Fairfull, touching on how the band have shifted their creative focus while also maintaining their core.
Ostensibly, this new creative period has culminated in the making of a brand new EP, which will be released early next year, the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Cheap Talk’ EP. The new EP sees Lucia & The Best Boys dive headfirst into their 80s inspirations – acts like Madonna, Stevie Nicks, New Order and Human League – while also retaining the fierceness of their 90s grunge, Courtney Love-esque bent.
Not content with a summer packed with festival appearances from Latitude, Truck to Tenement Trail, and recording a brand new EP, Lucia & The Best Boys have also made their foray into the fashion world with runway performances at the ONOFF show at London Fashion week and drummer Ally Scott walking for the luxury French fashion wear brand Celine.
Over the past 18 months the band have played hundreds of live dates, supporting the likes of Dream Wife, The Undertones and The Big Moon and industry showcase festivals including SXSW twice! Been name checked as “one to watch” by Wonderland Magazine, “one of the UK’s brightest young bands” - Drowned In Sound, featured in NME’s 100 for 2019, NYLON, The Line Of Best, DIY, DORK, CLASH and many more. Radio support has come by way of BBC Radio 1 - championed by Huw Stephens - “this is as good as indie gets”, Annie Mac, Jack Saunders, Phil Taggart and BBC Introducing, Radio X, Amazing Radio amongst others. They’ve amassed over 1.8 million streams and had numerous playlist additions from Spotify’s’ New Music Friday, All New All Now, Hot New Bands (cover), Fierce Femmes, to Apple’s; Breaking Rock and Rock Radio and Deezers; Brand New UK, Freshest Bands Around and Woman Of Alternative to name a few.
