As a visionary artist with deep roots in Montreal's innovative music scene, newcomer Christian Sean has been redefining pop music with his unique blend of melodic sensibilities and avant-garde experimentation. Now after a wave of acclaim for his work so far, he returns to preview his eagerly-anticipated debut album ‘Hallelujah Showers’ with the passionate new single “All In Your Hands”.
Featuring the previously shared anthems “Cold Water” and “Eventide”, ‘Hallelujah Showers’ blends brash electronic ventures with ethereal vocal layering, resulting in a progressive pop sound that strikes the perfect balance between irresistible melodies and ambitious experimentalism. From bass-heavy sample collages to hyperkinetic freak-outs, solemn spirituals and hypnotic hooks, its seven self-produced tracks are as eclectic as they are cohesive, immersive and melodic.
His newest effort “All In Your Hands” may just be the most potent piece of music he’s ever released. Across a backdrop of ghostly chanting, nimble beats and slithering bass lines, Sean casts a tale of righteous indignation that feels charged with spiritual purpose.
“It’s like a prayer”, says the artist. “About how the future of human life on earth may very well be in the hands of 100 or so corporations, but there’s an inevitable price to pay for that kind of power imbalance. A karmic retribution from forces beyond our control.”
The titular hook is hypnotic, recurring like an uplifting mantra, while the song’s titanic finale embodies the ferocity of nature restoring its own balance, a Great Flood of fuzzed-out 808s, flickering synth arpeggios that cleanse all in their path.

Christian Sean is a believer in the transformative power of pop music. As a kid he was drawn to indie-rock and leftfield electronics, part of a Montreal scene that disavowed commerciality in favour of innovation. Over time, however, he surrendered to his true calling – making the best music of his life, the incoming album ‘Hallelujah Showers’ is testimony to his melodic conversation, and his pop bravery.
Music runs deep in his soul. The early years of his childhood were nomadic – born in Switzerland to American parents who were members of a Christian cult, they travelled across Europe and the Southern states, before his mother finally escaped and settled in Montreal with him. Granted a non-religious childhood, he reveled in freedom, and this independence rings out in his art.
‘Hallelujah Showers’ is infused with colour and melodic revelation, darting between the lush arrangements of Brian Wilson or Sufjan Stevens through to the home-made electronica of Washed Out, say, or Panda Bear. Reveling in contradiction, it blends leftfield ideas with stunning moments of pop transcendence.
Written over a two-year span, sessions for the album took place mostly in remote country houses around Quebec that friends allowed him to stay in temporarily, with follow-up orchestration laid down at Green Room Studios in Montreal. Working to his own pace, the album drew in select voices from the Quebec music scene, with Christian Sean as its gravitational centre. “The themes that come through most strongly are judgement, and forgiveness. The oscillation between the two.”
A work of personal catharsis, ‘Hallelujah Showers’ was built on instinct, with Christian Sean truly getting his soul down on record. From its title to the final mixes, from those powerful vocals to the intricate arrangements, this is the moment a lifetime of music comes together in one place. “It’s the first step,” he says. “Everything up until this felt like research. But I feel more grounded in who I am now. This is the first project I’m truly willing to stand by, and I’m ready to move deeper into my creativity.”
