Having sold seventeen million albums, achieved five UK platinum albums, an Ivor Novello award, as well as Grammy and Mercury Music Prize nominations, Snow Patrol’s legacy needs no introduction. And after more than two decades of unbridled success, guitarist Nathan Connolly announces his plans for his debut solo album ‘The Strange Order Of Things’, showcased by the new lead single ‘Fires’, featuring Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil.

Separating from his previous project Little Matador, who released their self-titled debut LP in 2014, his new solo venture looks to become a more intimate but still collaborative affair. Featuring guest appearances from Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro, and Irish artist Ailbhe Reddy, as well as long-time collaborators Dave and Herb Magee (LaFaro, Little Matador, Arvo Party), Stephen Leacock (General Fiasco) and Gavin Fox (Turn, Idlewild, Little Matador), his newest venture looks to mark a seminal moment in his career to date.

Connolly describes the album as “trying to understand, make sense and work through events that have led to who I am now: heartache, regret, emotional cost, fatherhood.”

Previewed the newly unveiled single ‘Fires’, featuring the instantly recognisable voice of Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil, the duo’s new collaboration makes for uplifting listening. With its raw and powerful aesthetic matched by their incredibly harmonious dual vocals, this new endeavour kicks off his forthcoming collection with euphoric finesse

Adding about ‘Fires’, which was also co-written with Simon Neil, "I have known Simon since back in my early days with Snow Patrol. The first show I remember playing together was a Zane Lowe MTV Gonzo show in Glasgow in 2003. Over the years we occasionally mentioned doing something together at some point. Finally, the opportunity came in the form of Fires. He is extraordinary and came at the song from somewhere I don’t think I would or could have.”

Little Matador bandmate Dave Magee also co-wrote the track, with what Connolly describes as "an effortless gift for the riff".

Nathan Connolly began working on his solo album with producer Rocky O’Reilly in Belfast in 2017. After a lockdown-imposed hiatus paused Snow Patrol’s touring plans, he was then able to finish the project in early 2021. “Although the album is not about home,” says Connolly, “I felt compelled to make it there.”
