After finding enthusiastic support for their releases so far this year, which have featured on BBC Introducing East’s Weekly Vibe and Spotify’s NMF (UK), New Noise, Hot New Bands and Fresh Finds Rock playlists, as well as tastemaker support from the likes of CLASH, WONDERLAND and Record of the Day, Essex-based outfit Low Lying Sun have now delivered their anthemic debut EP ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’, alongside the official video for its standout offering ‘Car Crash’.

Described as 'the band for the wedding and the wake', 'Hymn To Say Goodbye' elegantly blends indie melancholy with raucous anthemic energy and invites the listener to rejoice in love lost. Featuring the previously shared title-track, their initial collection brings together their broad and intense direction to date, and makes an impactful introduction to their sound.

Speaking about the new EP, they said, "This EP has been two years in the making so for it to be finally out feels almost surreal. We wanted our first release to represent what we envisage our ‘sound’ to be; an upbeat, melancholic style of alternative indie. Even though the songs were written at different times and in different places we felt that they shared a collective theme. I suppose they’re all love songs in a way, but marred by an apathetic grief."

To support their newest release, the band have also unveiled the official video for the EP cut ‘Car Crash’. Bringing back more of the vivid and cinematic allure we witnessed on the visuals for the title-track, this new video perfectly accompanies their own distinctive brand of euphoric indie-rock, making for a powerful watch from start to finish. Adding about the visuals for ‘Car Crash’, "For the Car Crash video we tried to play with the idea of impending tragedy. The characters in the video exist in some kind of purgatory, still embracing whilst accompanied by the frantic imagery of the band. We wanted to create a sense of confusion, feeding the viewer snippets of the story to build anticipation, much like the song itself."

Low Lying Sun will also be celebrating the release of ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’ with two upcoming London shows:

13 April - Supporting Low Hummer @ The Lexington

14 April - Headlining the Communion New Music Night @ The Social

Their debut EP 'Hymn To Say Goodbye’ is available NOW on all DSPs through BSW Music / LAB Records.

EP Tracklist:

  1. Hymn To Say Goodbye

  2. Car Crash

  3. Dirty Lip

  4. Car Crash - Alternate

Formed of frontman Michael Hemmings, guitarist Ross Connell, bassist Matt Chan, and drummer Noah Booth, Low Lying Sun’s music is lively and introspective, combining ambitious orchestrations, earnest storytelling, and an energy that feels at once both fresh and timeless.

Bringing inflections from both sides of the Atlantic, they carve their own brand of alternative music, far greater than the sum of its parts. Low Lying Sun’s lyrics escape present disaster and search through nostalgia. They invite listeners to rejoice in the time and love that they’ve wasted, providing a commentary of loss over the band’s ambitious instrumentation.

Signed to Jamie Scott & Colin Barlow’s BSW Music, releasing through partnership with LAB Records, and with live dates to be announced soon, the band is ready to make 2022 their breakthrough year.
