Following on from the rapturous response to their stunning debut single ‘Car Crash’ earlier this year, which saw support from BBC Introducing East’s Weekly Vibe and Spotify’s New Noise playlist, Essex-based outfit Low Lying Sun have now announced plans for their debut EP ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’, alongside the release of the shimmering title-track.

Much like their initial offering, the new single ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’ continues the band’s pursuit of bold and vibrant indie-rock textures, setting out to define their sound and ambitious artistry. With a unique mixture of cinematic soundscapes and unrelenting rhythms to reflect the bitter-sweetness of the song’s subject matter, pleading vocals echoing the heartache and despair of a relationship’s end.

Described as 'the band for the wedding and the wake', 'Hymn To Say Goodbye' elegantly blends indie melancholy with raucous anthemic energy and invites the listener to rejoice in love lost.

Speaking about the new offering, they said, "Hymn To Say Goodbye is about realising a relationship isn’t going to work, but you still love them and so it’s hard to make sense of it. It’s an ambitious grief, you’re both still there but what you had is gone. It’s a tragedy; like burning a masterpiece, it feels like armageddon. You try to move on without hurting the other person so you yourself, but you want them to know they are still important to you."

Their debut EP ‘Hymm To Say Goodbye’ will be available on all DSPs from April 1st through BSW Music / Lab Records.

EP Tracklist:

  1. Hymn To Say Goodbye

  2. Car Crash

  3. Dirty Lip

  4. Car Crash - Alternate

Formed of frontman Michael Hemmings, guitarist Ross Connell, bassist Matt Chan, and drummer Noah Booth, Low Lying Sun’s music is lively and introspective, combining ambitious orchestrations, earnest storytelling, and an energy that feels at once both fresh and timeless.

Bringing inflections from both sides of the Atlantic, they carve their own brand of alternative music, far greater than the sum of its parts. Low Lying Sun’s lyrics escape present disaster and search through nostalgia. They invite listeners to rejoice in the time and love that they’ve wasted, providing a commentary of loss over the band’s ambitious instrumentation.

Signed to Jamie Scott & Colin Barlow’s BSW Music, releasing through partnership with LAB Records, and with live dates to be announced soon, the band is ready to make 2022 their breakthrough year.
