Following on from the release of their much-loved EP ‘Eternity’ from the start of this year, Lucia & The Best Boys now return with a far more solemn new offering in the form of ‘Let Go’, released on May 22nd.
While the band usually look to bring high power electronics and a thunderous alt-rock sound to everything they do, ‘Let Go’ sees the group deliver a far more atmospheric and warming direction. With frontwoman Lucia Fairfull showcasing a more dulcet and delicate side to her voice, this newest swoon looks to add a more intimate addition to their ever-growing catalogue.
Speaking about their new release, the band said, "I have always enjoyed writing songs that are clear and to the point but I think ‘Let Go’ is the most honest and true I have ever been in a song. Last year I had a tough time trying to put my thoughts into comprehensible words because I was emotionally confused and sometimes lost. This led me to try things out, like writing on a piano which I never really do as I’ve always started writing songs on a guitar. Somehow this allowed these words to spill out of me whilst sitting at a piano, after a very long and frustrating time of finding what I wanted to say.
“The following week I was in LA and I showed what I had written to my friend Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet. He loved the song and so I finished it with him out there at his house. We had no proper studio set up and originally this was meant to just be a demo, but at the time the song felt so present to me that we decided there was no way doing a re recorded version would have the same emotion. It was almost overwhelming as once we had finished it and I listened back to it, it was such a weight off my shoulders, and a slight sense of relief as I felt like ‘ah, this is what I’ve been wanting to say the whole time’."
Lucia and the Best Boys kicked off 2020 with a double whammy, releasing brand new single ‘City Of Angels’ and a brand new ‘Eternity EP’ on January 31st through Sweet Jane Recordings.
Recorded in LA with producer Carlos De La Garza (Paramore, Wolf Alice, Best Coast), the ‘Eternity EP’ sees Lucia and the Best Boys (formerly LUCIA) dive headfirst into their 80s inspirations – acts like Madonna, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Stevie Nicks, New Order and Human League – while also retaining the fierceness of their 90s grunge, Courtney Love-esque bent. “It’s more aggressive than you would think, when you think of 80s music,” explains Lucia, of the sound on the Eternity EP.
‘Eternity EP’ features; lead single ‘City Of Angels’ - a tour de force that focuses on isolation and the trappings of society, live favourite ‘Flames’ and ‘My God,’ as well as their punchy previous single ‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’ (the accompanying video, directed by Stuart Alexander, sees Lucia ride a horse around the Barrowlands area of Glasgow, as you do!). The equally eye-catching video for ‘City Of Angels’, also directed by Alexander sees front woman Lucia Fairfull raw and up-close as she grapples with her inner demons.

‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’ received multiple BBC Radio 1 plays, was ‘Track of the Week’ on Janice Forsyth’s BBC Radio Scotland show as well as picking up support from the station’s Vic Galloway, Radcliffe & Maconie on BBC 6Music and Radio X’s Jon Kennedy, not to mention Spotify’s New Music Friday UK, The Rock List, All New Rock, Hot New Bands, Student Union, Apple’s Breaking Alternative, Deezer’s Brand New UK, Indie Jukebox, soundtracked fashion brand Nasty Gal’s latest TV ad campaign and featured on Made In Chelsea.
The group marked their latest era with a name change – one that’s reflective of their early work, referencing debut 2017 EP ‘Best Boy’, while also marking a new chapter. The name change also coincided with a line-up change for the Glaswegian band, which is now completed by guitarist Dillon Squire. He joins frontwoman Lucia Fairfull – who is a force to be reckoned with - drummer Alasdair Scott and bass player Chris Frew Ballantyne.
September 2019 Lucia & The Best Boys made their foray into the fashion world with runway performances at the ONOFF show at London Fashion week. Whilst drummer Ally Scott regularly walks for the luxury French fashion wear brand CELINE. The French fashion house recently featured the band as part of their Instagram lockdown series - ‘Portrait Of A Performer’ to their 2.3 million followers.
Over the past 18 months the band have played hundreds of live dates including; sold out headline dates in London and Glasgow, supported the likes of Dream Wife, The Snuts and Miles Kane and industry showcase festivals including SXSW. Name checked as “one to watch” by Wonderland Magazine, “one of the UK’s brightest young bands” - Drowned In Sound, featured in NME’s 100 for 2019, NYLON, The Line Of Best, DIY, DORK, CLASH and many more. Support for their previous singles and EP’s have has come by way of BBC Radio 1 - championed by Huw Stephens - “this is as good as indie gets”, Annie Mac, Jack Saunders, Phil Taggart and BBC Introducing, Radio X, Amazing Radio amongst others.
