Marsicans today release the official video for their new single ‘Sunday’ which was filmed at their Leeds University Union show and shot by their long-term visual collaborators - Leeds based Sodium Films.
Marsicans' guitarist Oliver Jameson explains the concept behind the video and the alternative version that never was…"We were supposed to be playing South By Southwest (SXSW) in Texas earlier this month and we planned to shoot a fun video for 'Sunday' while we were there, featuring a convertible and a 20-inch pizza. Like many other things right now, it got cancelled so we've put a pin in that idea. We know for us and many people, live music and the atmosphere of gigs is such a big part of our lives. So we thought, because we don't know when we'll next be playing to a room of people, it might be good for this video for us to share footage of a fun show we played at Leeds University Union at the end of last year. Hopefully it's something we can all look forward to getting back to in the near future."
The fast-rising UK indie band - one The Guardian’s 50 Best New Artists for 2020 - released their new single 'Sunday' on March 25th through Killing Moon Records. This breezy indie-pop track features standout harmonies from frontman James Newbigging and bassist Rob Brander. The song’s sentiment about togetherness is particularly poignant for the times we’re living through - "wherever you are, whatever you're doing, it's who you're there with that makes it special."
"Sunday is written about a time we spent in Toronto and upstate New York”, explains Marsicans' frontman James Newbigging. “Some of it was written whilst we were out there. We stayed in Koreatown in Toronto, and that was quite fun, and added to the song as the trip went on. The verses are about us having the best time ever, in a new place, and feeling pretty lucky that we get to experience that as a band. So it's a love song to Toronto and NY State - but it's also me just missing my girlfriend, despite having the best time in the world. It's two-love-songs-in-one basically. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, it's who you're there with that makes it special."
Due to the unprecedented circumstances we are currently experiencing the release of Marsicans debut album ‘Ursa Major’ has been moved to August 14th. A run of UK headline dates will follow in October 2020. 'Sunday' picks up from the release of singles 'Juliet' and 'Can I Stay Here Forever pt. II) which will both feature on their debut record.
Unfortunately, like a lot of acts, Marsicans should have performed at this year’s SXSW but it wasn't to be! In its absence they recorded a live session for the BBC Radio 1 as part of their SXSW contingency coverage. You can listen back to ‘Juliet’ and ‘Sunday’ HERE
Marsicans (“MAR-sick-anz") most recent single ‘Juliet’ saw continued support for the band across UK and international radio and DPS and was the follow ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt. II)’ – which was the first single to drop from their debut album ‘Ursa Major’. CISHF pt. II was "Record Of The Week" on BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire and picked up plays on BBC Radio 1, John Kennedy X-posure and the Radio X evening playlist. Spotify support came by way of New Music Friday, All New Rock, The Indie List and New Alternative. Deezer playlisted on Brand New UK and Indie Jukebox and Apple Music gave it a global add to Kebab on the Nightbus. It also featured on BT Sport’s Weekly Goal Show.
Marsicans will be hitting the road in October with a run of UK album tour headline shows to support the release of 'Ursa Major', including dates in London, Glasgow, Manchester and hometown Leeds. Tickets on sale now
