Leeds finest, indie-quartet Marsicans – one of The Guardian’s 50 Best New Artists for 2020 - continue to reveal new material from their forthcoming debut album ‘Ursa Major’ at pace. Today, April 28th they release their glistening indie-pop single and somewhat unusually titled ‘Summery In Angus’ through Killing Moon Records. The song explores the dichotomy of self.

Delving into the meaning behind and inspiration for the track, Marsicans frontman, James Newbigging says, “'Summery in Angus' was written around the time when the UK started naming storms and Storm Angus was all the rage. I was indoors wearing an over-the-top summery shirt and shorts, whilst it was horrible outside. My girlfriend said, "Look at you, all summery in Angus!" and that phrase seemed to resonate with me, despite it really not making that much sense at first glance.
So, the song is about the two sides of yourself: the not-so-good side which, no matter what fun you're having, just clouds the back of your mind, and then the side which fights the bad thoughts and tries to keep you positive when everything seems to be going wrong. It's the inner fight between those two sides. It starts off referencing lines from a really old poem my Grandad used to tell me when I was younger. There seems to be various versions which go back a few hundred years, but the 'nonsense poem' always made me laugh, and I thought it summed up the opposing sides perfectly”.
‘Summery In Angus’ is Marsicans’ fourth track to be released in 2020 and from one great bear (the Marsican) to The Great Bear, all four feature on their debut album ‘Ursa Major’ which is set for release on August 14th. The preceding singles 'Sunday', ‘Juliet’ and ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt. II)’ saw continued support for the band across UK and international radio, DSP’s and TV including; Radio X-Xposure playlist support for ‘Juliet’ & ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt. II)’ to "Record Of The Week" on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire for ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt. II)’ alongside spot plays across BBC Radio 1 and Radio X and A&R Worldwide’s Passport Approved playlist support for ‘Juliet’ and ‘CISHF (pt. II)’. Continued Spotify support by way of; New Music Friday, All New Rock, The Indie List and New Alternative. Deezer; through their Brand New UK and Indie Jukebox playlists and Apple Music support globally through Kebab on the Nightbus. TV support from MTV Rocks, Kerrang TV, BT Sport including a feature on their Weekly Goal Show and syncs on Made In Chelsea.
