Tipped by The Guardian in their 50 Best New Artists for 2020, Marsicans (“MAR-sick-anz") are a fast-rising UK indie band on the brink of releasing the first single from their as yet untitled debut album. The new track ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt.II)’ is arguably the band's hardest hitting musical offering to date, reflecting the turbulent times in which it was written and recorded. Packing a punch ‘Can I Stay Here Forever (pt.II)’ is out January 29th on Killing Moon Records.
Singer James Newbigging explains: "The UK has been a particularly divided place over the past few years and this song was born out of frustration with it all. My head was (still is) overloaded by news surrounding Brexit and an impending environmental disaster. This song is me wanting everyone to chill the fuck out, stop treating other people as the enemy and just get on with actually solving the problems we're facing. I was going to say this song isn't aimed at one particular side of 'the debate', but that was my issue in the first place. There isn't a debate. People shut their ears to anyone with an opposite opinion, rather than trying to understand their point of view and have a reasonable conversation."
And why Part 2? "Can I Stay Here Forever actually started a few years back. An earlier version was part of the live set and was actually recorded. For some reason, it never saw the light of day. Part 2 is a tip of the hat to its predecessor."
With their driving, harmony-laden sound and raucous live shows, Marsicans have had a whirlwind 18 months: sold-out tour dates up and down the UK, including selling out their first 1,000-capacity headline show in advance; headlining BBC Introducing stages at Reading and Leeds festivals; opening a Kaiser Chiefs stadium show at Elland Road, supporting Foals in Hamburg, touring the UK with We Are Scientists; a string of eight consecutive singles supported by UK national radio BBC Radio 1 and Radio X, all gracing New Music Friday UK and other Spotify/Apple Music/Deezer/Amazon editorial playlists; filmed live sessions for VEVO DSCVR and the BBC's legendary Maida Vale studios; tracks featured on BBC TV's Jools Holland, MTV, BT Sport and the opening credits of Made In Chelsea; a Samsung Galaxy worldwide ad sync; and a surprise UK 7" vinyl chart #1 for 2019 single 'Your Eyes'.
Media support for Marsicans has come by way of Sunday Times’ ‘Hottest Tracks’ (Pop-Ups [Sunny at the Weekend]), a BBC Entertainment News Interview tied to their headline slot on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading & Leeds which racked up over 100,000 views in a day, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, CLASH, All Things Go, Earmilk, Wonderland, The 405, Official Charts and #1 on Hype Machine's Top 10 Most Blogged Artists of the week.
