Speaking about ‘Criminal To Love’ Ellen explains, "’Criminal to Love’ is about unfair love. You know that feeling when you give more than you get. I think a lot about why we often get attracted to people who are not good for us. The heart always seems to get its way in the end. It's weird. Destructive love is strangely attractive and before you know it you are in the middle of it.”
With her self-taught talent and captivating way of delivering norm-challenging messages, the outspoken 19-year-old pop promise is a fresh example of the young DIY generation, this also shows in her choice to work parallel with a Indie label in Sweden and a major label in the US. Her single ‘On The Bus,’ was the first release through the partnership and is available to stream and download HERE. The single is accompanied by the vibrant and at times surreal video directed by visual artist Gemma Yin. Watch the video for ‘On The Bus’ HERE
Before releasing any music, Ellen received praise from music icons Carly Rae Jepsen, Max Martin, and Laleh when she was awarded Rookie Artist of the Year at the Denniz Pop Awards in Sweden. Her debut single and LGBTQ acceptance anthem, ‘The One I Love,’ has already racked up over three million total global streams since its release in April and was added to over 1,500 playlists so far, including Spotify’s New Music Friday (Sweden).
Since the age of four, Ellen has been one with the guitar and spent the majority of her youth secretly writing songs in her room at home in Stockholm, or in South Africa where her family occasionally lived, drawing inspiration from diverse artists such as Ed Sheeran, King Princess, Dire Straits, and Bruce Springsteen. She is a playful, charismatic, and emotional storyteller who uses her songwriting to challenge the norms that today’s youth is fighting. She is outspoken about LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, and pushes back against the traditional social structures that a young girl should fit into.
Ellen will be releasing more music throughout the year, with her first EP currently in the works. She made her U.S. live debut recently in Los Angeles at the Hotel Café. This summer Ellen opened up for Laleh reaching over 5,000 people and also performed at Way Out West! Keep up with Ellen on her socials for more music, touring updates, and additional exciting news to be announced.
