Two performances confirmed at The Great Escape on May 10th

Following on from the success of debut singles ‘Human’ and ‘Grace’ coupled with the winning of the Northern Irish Music Prize – Single of the Year 2018, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kitt Philippa (KP) now gears up for the release of their next single and EP release both titled: ‘You’ scheduled for release Friday May 17th on Paragon Records.

To tie in with the announcement today Kitt releases a brand new video for the award winning single ‘Human’. Directed by duo Luke Daly and Nathan Fagan of Luna (Gavin James, Walking On Cars). Watch the new video for ‘Human’ HERE

Speaking about the video Kitt says “We wanted something honest and relatively raw to visually mirror the music. Buildings, and (de)construction in general, interest me [lyric line in verse 1: 'I keep building for demolitions'] so it seemed appropriate that the surroundings for the 'Human' video was in a disused 19th century warehouse in Belfast. The walled emptiness and window-like roof simultaneously create a feeling of isolation and yet spacious potential; shadow and light. A Wurlitzer was placed in the centre of the room to accompany and complete the basic performance of the music."

The lead single and title track from the 4 track EP: ‘You’ speaks of a type of imaginary love and yearning, while Human is an emotive plea, a call to be close and to be kind, to rediscover that most beautiful denominator within all of us; our humanity. ‘Grace’ is a reductive reflection on a love most innocent and true, while the final track on the EP: ‘Lion’ is a track about courage and the seeking of renewal.

Although growing up largely in a classical music environment, Kitt Philippa’s influences have been broad, and their songwriting and performances reflect a craft steeped in contemporary urban and digital soundscapes.

KP has performed music with The Ulster Orchestra, has been featured on the playlists of Mary Anne Hobbs, Tom Robinson, Huw Stephens, Philly Taggart, Tom Ravenscroft, RTE 2FM and has silenced audiences in Berlin, London, Dublin, and Belfast: the place currently called home.
