The Modern Strangers release bewitching new single ‘Magic Hour’ out May 17th through Hoolay Records
The Modern Strangers return with the release of their bewitching, disco infused new single ‘Magic Hour’ out May 17th through Hoolay Records. The brand new track comes hot on the heels of touring the UK in support of Flor for the second time and supporting All Twins at Oslo last night. Produced by Gordon Mills Jr. Listen to ‘Magic Hour’ HERE
Speaking about the new single, The Modern Strangers explain, “We wrote the song whilst on a trip to L.A. It was the day England played Columbia in the World Cup and after that tense penalty shoot out we took the adrenaline into a home studio in Silver Lake and recorded 'Magic Hour'. It was also our lead singer (Max's) birthday. The combination of so much excitement resulted in one of our favourite songs to date! We feel it really captures our trip and the emotions we had during that time. We wrote the entire song that day, and finished it off in the UK.”
Fronted by brothers Max & Archie Davenport, the Tunbridge Wells band first sprang to life off the back of debut single 'Vanilla', earning them early support from BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1. Subsequently self-releasing seminal singles 'Hot Rain', 'Margarita' and 'Coco Hello' in the midst of a busy summer of shows. Winning over new fans eager to hear more from their incendiary live set and leading to signing a publishing deal with BMG. Last summer saw them hitting stages across the UK on their first tour, a plethora of festivals (Latitude, Isle of Wight, Standon Calling and The Great Escape amongst others) to their first European dates, supporting Flor, including shows in Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam (along with a headline set for Gibraltar's National Day celebrations).
Following on from the band's debut EP 'Meltdown Mechanics' released in June last year to wide support from key blogs, tastemakers and streaming platforms (clocking up over a million plays on Spotify), the band have been working on tracks in LA with their producer Gordon Mills Jr, ready to unleash their sophomore EP.
2019 saw them start the year with sell out shows in London, Manchester and Coventry, along with being picked by Annie Mac for her first "Future sounds" feature of the year and Jack Saunder's "Next Wave"; further showing the band to be far more than just algorithm approved purveyors of perfect guitar pop. Their unique brand of spiralling, euphoric electronic indie pop is continuing to inject a sense of fun back into guitar music.
