Rising Swedish pop artist Ellen Krauss releases her debut EP ‘FIRST TAKE’ on November 22nd through Tiller Inc. licensed to BMG Recorded Music. This five-track EP showcases this incredibly exciting young artist’s burgeoning talent.
The ‘First Take EP’ features Ellen’s most recent single ‘Let Me Have it’ as well as previous singles ‘Criminal To Love’ ‘On The Bus’ and ‘The One I Love’ and a brand new song ‘The Wedding’. Her singles have received online tastemaker support from the likes of CLASH, Indie Shuffle, 1883 Magazine, Fault Magazine, When The Horn Blows, London In Stereo, Variance Magazine and many more. Ellen made her TV debut on Sweden’s TV SVT earlier this month and this week followed that with an appearance on Sweden’s biggest morning TV show, Nyhetsmorgon TV4 performing ‘The One I Love’ and ‘The Wedding’.
Speaking about the EP, Ellen says “First Take, my debut EP is a big step for me. To be releasing songs to the public that I’ve written in my bedroom just as a way of getting my thoughts and emotions out of my system! In a way, this is like my diary from the past two years and I’m proud of this chapter I’ve put together. There’s love, there’s conflict and there’s pride!”
With her self-taught talent and captivating way of delivering norm-challenging messages, the outspoken 19-year-old pop promise is a fresh example of the young DIY generation, this also shows in her choice to work parallel with an Indie label in Sweden and a major label in the US.
Before releasing any music, Ellen received praise from music icons Carly Rae Jepsen, Max Martin, and Laleh when she was awarded Rookie Artist of the Year at the Denniz Pop Awards in Sweden. Her debut single and LGBTQ acceptance anthem, ‘The One I Love,’ has already racked up over four million total global streams since its release in April and was added to over 1,500 playlists so far, including Spotify’s New Music Friday (Sweden).
Since the age of four, Ellen has been one with the guitar and spent the majority of her youth secretly writing songs in her room at home in Stockholm, or in South Africa where her family occasionally lived, drawing inspiration from diverse artists such as Ed Sheeran, King Princess, Dire Straits, and Bruce Springsteen. She is a playful, charismatic, and emotional storyteller who uses her songwriting to challenge the norms that today’s youth is fighting. She is outspoken about LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, and pushes back against the traditional social structures that a young girl should fit into.
She made her U.S. live debut recently in Los Angeles at the Hotel Café. This summer Ellen opened up for Laleh reaching over 5,000 people and also performed at Way Out West! She’s just been announced for SXSW 2020 in Austin, Texas. Keep up with Ellen on her socials for more music, touring updates, and additional exciting news to be announced.
