Maven Grace release haunting video for their latest single ‘Darkness’

Debut EP ‘INTRO’ out November 16th 

Having recently released their latest single ‘Darkness’, Maven Grace today - October 31st, All Hallows Eve - release the haunting visual to accompany the track. It’s a moving piece that fits perfectly with the song’s narrative of loss and grief sung from the perspective of a young mother. 

Shot by Hollywood wunderkind Drew Biennemann, whose previous collaborations have included The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd, Darkness is a disturbing fever dream of a video. Deliberately blurring the boundaries between what is real and what is merely imagined, it combines Kubrick's claustrophobic work on The Shining and mixes it with the contemporary British sensibility of directors like Ben Wheatley. With grief and terror on a collision course, the video's nightmarishly elliptical depiction of a haunted young mother builds to a combustible climax. Shot entirely on location in an eleventh-century castle - one of Scotland's most haunted - the video has already attracted the support of Academy Award-winning directors Tom Hooper and Danny Boyle and is certain to gather further plaudits upon its release.

The track is taken from their forthcoming debut EP ‘INTRO’ due for release on November 16th, which also includes previous single’s ‘Innocent Dreams’ and ‘Something Strange’ and an additional track.

Between them, the members of the band have supported everyone from Radiohead to Siouxsie Sioux and Noel Gallagher, and have just returned from a short tour of China, which saw them play alongside members of Beijing’s hardcore underground music scene next to a Lama Temple just off Tiananmen Square. Songwriter Henry Jack explains, “Darkness was partly recorded with players at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing after we became transfixed with the sound of the erhu. The session was a thrilling musical adventure, and gave the song the otherworldliness it needed.”

This summer the band’s standout performance at Standon Calling didn’t go unnoticed either, with none other than headliner Bryan Ferry writing to them afterwards to praise their unique sound. Goldfrapp were similarly impressed, and the legendary electronic band is now working on its own remix of Darkness. Maven Grace are also collaborating with legendary creative director Mary Fellowes, who has worked with everyone from The Kills to Adele, Saorsie Ronan and Lena Dunham. Fellowes’ groundbreaking approach to contemporary style is the perfect complement to the band’s own unique aesthetic.

Darkness is the follow-up to Maven Grace’s previous singles ‘Innocent Dreams’ and ‘Something Strange’, which picked up support from Spotify’s New Music Friday and reached the UK Viral top 50 as well as earning online tastemaker support from 1883 Magazine, Louder Than War and Songwriting Magazine to name but a few. With its dynamic, evocative soundscapes, and hauntingly cinematic atmosphere, ‘Darkness’ would sit easily on the soundtrack to ‘Lost In Translation’ or ‘Drive’.
